Ulcombe Church
|
|
Ulcombe,
like all
the churches in the Benefice, part of the North Downs Deanery of the
Diocese of Canterbury.
The church is
named for All the Saints.
Ulcombe church is one of
a line of churches along the Greensand ridge that separates the North
Downs from The Weald and perhaps waymarks an old forgotten highway,
presumably to Canterbury. The church itself is a Norman building,
altered and enlarged in the 13th and 15th centuries, with two enormous
old yew trees in the churchyard
which may be as old as three thousand years”

Roll of
Honour. There are two memorials commemorating the men of Ulcombe.
The first is a memorial standing in the grounds of the parish church in
the form of a wheeled cross on two plinths with four steps leading to
the base. The second is a brass plaque within the church listing those
men who died in the first world war and then an additional plaque
listing those from the second world war.
